750,000 trees distributed and planted in South Kivu in two years

Deforestation in South Kivu, caused by factors such as slash-and-burn farming, illegal logging and population growth, has disastrous consequences for the environment and for people.
To tackle the problem, a large-scale reforestation programme draws on the Congolese government's goal of planting 3 billion trees by 2025. The latest 65,000 trees were distributed to communities living around Kahuzi-Biega National Park, a fragile ecosystem threatened by the illegal exploitation of natural resources. The initiative aims to protect this exceptional natural heritage and encourage harmonious coexistence between people and nature.
